Cow-Related Facts in Fort Worth
The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame is located in Fort Worth and commemorates and remembers the culture and contributions of cowgirls in the west.
The cattle drive in the city is the only one in the world that takes place twice every day. The city’s cattle connection is maintained through a free twice-daily cattle drive in the Stockyards. At 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Texas cowhands carry a herd of Texas longhorns down Exchange Avenue every day.

Millions of cattle were moved through Fort Worth after the Civil War through the late 1870s over the fabled Chisholm Trail, a rocky route connecting Jesse Chisholm’s southern trading post near the Red River to his northern trading post close to Kansas City. Fort Worth developed and became the hub of cattle drives and eventually the center of ranching and cattle trading, gaining the nickname “Cowtown.”
The Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show, which has been held annually in Fort Worth since 1896, is the nation’s first stock show and rodeo. On the west side of the city, at the Will Rogers Memorial Center, is where the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is held, as it is more well known; it takes place in January and February.

On the banks of the Trinity River, Fort Worth was first known as Camp Worth in 1849.
In 1895, Texas pink granite was utilized in the construction of the Tarrant County Courthouse. With the exception of the clock tower, it was designed after the Texas State Capitol.
With its founding in 1873, Fort Worth’s Hyde Park is the city’s oldest park.
Bonnie and Clyde used the historic Stockyards Hotel in Fort Worth as one of their legal havens in 1933. You can stay in Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker’s 1933 Fort Knox hotel. Bonnie’s.38 revolver, pictures, newspaper articles, and a poem she penned for Clyde surround the Bonnie and Clyde Junior Suite’s king-size bed.

War-Related Facts in Fort Worth
During the Mexican-American War, Major General William Jenkins Worth held the second-in-command position. After the conflict, Worth, a hero, was given command of the Department of Texas. In January 1849, he suggested building a string of 10 forts from Eagle Pass to the Trinity River’s West Fork and Clear Fork confluence to define the western boundary of Texas. Worth passed away from cholera one month later.
Major Ripley A. Arnold was tasked with finding a new fort located close to the West Fork and Clear Fork when General William S. Harney took over command of the Department of Texas. Afterward, Arnold founded a camp on the Trinity River’s bank on June 6, 1849, and gave the outpost the name Camp Worth in remembrance of the late General Worth.
The Canadian government built three aviation fields near Fort Worth during World War I because the area’s temperate environment permitted year-round training. When the US entered the conflict, it took control of those fields and gave them the new names Carruthers and Barron.
Fort Worth saw the construction of a Quartermaster Depot, a Marine Air Base, and the Fort Worth Army Air Field during World War II. The airplane plant for Consolidated-Vultee was established. With peak employment of 32,000 workers, the mile-long facility produced more than 3,000 B-24 Liberator aircraft during the war.
A US Navy littoral combat ship of the Freedom class is the USS Fort Worth. She is the first vessel to bear the name of Texas’s Fort Worth.

Before departing for Dallas in 1963, President John F. Kennedy gave his final statement in front of the public at a Fort Worth Chamber breakfast before being assassinated.
It seems that a creature that is half man and half goat lives close to Lake Fort Worth. Witnesses described the creature as being 350 pounds in weight, seven feet tall, and half goat. The beast, described as hairy, horned, and scaled, was purportedly observed sprinting across a cliff and throwing a pickup tire 500 feet.
The biggest honky tonk in the entire globe is Billy Bob’s Texas. American country music nightclub Billy Bob’s Texas is situated in the Fort Worth Stockyards. With 100,000 square feet of indoor area and almost 20 acres of parking, it also bills itself as “The World’s Largest Honky Tonk.”
The Fort Worth Bureau of Engraving and Printing makes 60% of US paper currency. A covered corridor above the factory floor lets Western Currency Facility visitors watch billions of dollars being printed. Weekday self-guided tours are free.
One of the best places to watch a race if you prefer NASCAR to rodeos is at Texas Motor Speedway, which is in the northernmost city of Fort Worth, Texas.
